About Us
Who we are
Hope’s Front Door is not just a name; it’s our promise. We are dedicated to being a welcome entrance for those in need of immediate assistance, providing vital services with care, compassion, and respect. Our mission is not only to address the immediate challenges our clients face but to also light the way forward, directing them to further resources and support.
We are a resource for DuPage County residents seeking assistance with some of their most pressing concerns. These individuals and families are in crisis, and include the working poor, the recently unemployed and the chronically unhoused. Our community partners needed a trusted friend to help their members, and we are here to serve.
With more than 300 client visits each month, Hope’s Front Door is organized to train interview-volunteers, track all client visits and maintain an extensive list of helping agencies for extended assistance. By establishing visit and annual assistance limits, we provide a reasonably fair distribution of the communities’ resources.
Mission
At Hope’s Front Door, our mission is to empower those experiencing moments of critical need by providing basic essentials and life-skill training.
Vision
To end community poverty and need, one person or family at a time.
Hope’s History
Since 2000, Hope’s Front Door has been open to all our neighbors in need. It all started with a group of clergy and community leaders who had growing concerns about our residents’ emergency needs. This generous group wanted a central location from which their members could receive care and assistance. Initially, we operated independently under the wing of the nonprofit LOVE Christian Clearinghouse, supplying vouchers for food, transportation, car repair and lodging to clients seeking assistance in DuPage County.
As our community grew, we incorporated as the Walk-In Ministry of Hope in 2003 and registered as a 501(c)(3) in the State of Illinois in 2004. In 2013 we chose a new name, Hope’s Front Door, to demonstrate our dedication to providing a safe haven; a first step towards hope for our neighbors.
Diversity, Equity & Inclusion
At Hope’s Front Door, we strive for a diverse, inclusive, and equitable environment where all employees, volunteers, and clients, whatever their gender, race, ethnicity, national origin, age, sexual orientation or identity, education or disability, feels valued and respected. We are committed to providing a nondiscriminatory approach where we respect and value diverse life experiences and heritages and ensure that all voices are valued and heard.
Our work will be guided by compassion and respect for the dignity of all who work for or receive services from our organization.
Value Promise
We measure our contribution based on understanding community and individual client needs and our success in meeting them.
